Welcome to HP BASIC/UX Version 6.5. This revision of RMB/UX was produced to be Year 2000 Compliant. It has been designed for and tested on HP-UX 9.10 with Year 2000 patches.

In order for RMB/UX to be Year 2000 Compliant, you must make sure that your version of HP-UX is also Year 2000 Compliant. Your HP-UX 9.10 system must have the Year 2000 patches.

Hewlett Packard's Internet Web Site, or your Hewlett Packard Sales Representative, can give you more information.

This revision of RMB/UX is installed with a slightly different procedure than that for earlier versions:

IMPORTANT

Always indicate that you are installing from TAPE, even when you install from a CD-ROM.

This is the procedure for installing on HP-UX 9.10:

To install, first mount the CD (We will assume the mount directory is /UPDATE_CDROM)

Execute update, and then

select> Change Source or Destination (press select item)

select> From Tape Device to Local System (press select item)

tab to Source and type: /UPDATE_CDROM/rmbux.b.b6.5

Then press (done).

select> Select/View Partitions and Filesets (press select item)

and replace the "n" with a "y", (press start loading)

and complete the process.

Creating device files and setting permissions

After installing BASIC/UX, the super-user should also execute the rmbconfig program. The program is described in the README below. It is executed with the command

/usr/lib/rmb/rmbconfig

NOTE: As was true with BASIC/UX version 6.4, rmbconfig creates new device files without permissions (permissions 000). No user will be able to use an interface without read and/or write permission.

Any previously existing device files will retain their permissions, but the super-user will need to set permissions on the device files that are newly created. Any user who must control an interface must have read and write permission. The device files for BASIC/UX are found in the directory:

/dev/rmb
