TAMS 60488 HP-IB card

I/O performance is imperative in instrument control. The computer should always be waiting for the instrument and not the other way around. The TAMS 60488 can deliver all the speed that your instruments need.  The TAMS 60488 is an average of 24% faster than the HP 82341D HP-IB card.

In actual tests on transfers that ranged in size from 100K to 10MB with data blocks that varied from 1K to 128K using the 82341D HP-IB card the TAMS 60488 was an average of 20% faster in read and write operations.

The 82341D was selected for comparison because it is probably the most widely used HP-IB card, and HP specifications have traditionally been very conservative.

Using a single number to characterize performance of GPIB, or any type of I/O operation can be misleading.  There are many factors that affect actual performance: the amount of data being transferred; the size of data blocks; the difference between read and write speeds; programming language; the computer being used; etc. As a result, we do not recommend basing any decisions on maximum transfer rate.  However, to conform to the industry standard of specifying maximum I/O speed, the TAMS 60488 card can be specified to exceed 1MB/s.

The TAMS 60488 is fully compliant with the PCI specifications for 3.3V and 5V PCI/PCI-X slots.  The card operates with 32 bit or 64 bit signaling specified at 33, 66, 100 or 133MHz, allowing complete configuration flexibility.  Whether you are using Agilent VEE, HTBasic for Windows, or programming in C with the SICL or VISA library, your code will now run at full performance.

TAMS 60488 is a functional replacement for the HP/Agilent 82350A PCI GPIB Card.

TAMS 488 cable and Agilent I/O Library for Windows are not included with 60488 and should be ordered separately if needed.
TAMS 488 Cables:
Our cable is a high density connector on one end and a standard GPIB connector on the other.  Our card uses a smaller, high density connector so as to be in full compliance with the PCI specification.  A standard GPIB connector on a PCI card is actually wider than the PCI specification allows.  With a standard GPIB connector and cable, it is sometimes impossible to connect the cable to some computers.  The large connectors often interfere with the case or adjacent expansion slots.  This stresses the cable, card or connection. Our high density connector allows multiple cards to be installed in adjacent slots without cable interference or connection strain.
