How to verify a SICL Interface Configuration

After you've installed an interface on Linux, HP-UX, or Windows, there is a quick way to test the interface's functionality using the SICL utilities iclear, iwrite, & iread.

iclear <sym_name> \

iwrite <sym_name> where <sym_name> is the symbolic name given in iosetup.

iread <symname> /

Example: assume iosetup ran without error and you installed a GPIB card, the symbolic name for which is hpib. Assume a 34401A DVM powered on and connected via IB cable to the IB card you configured. The DVM's address is 22.

iclear hpib (does a hardware clear of the card itself.)

iclear hpib,22 (clears the DVM; screen changes, ADDR and RMT indicators light).

iwrite hpib,22 (when you hit return, puts you on next line w/o prompt.

Type: *idn? (and follow that with CTRL d and RETURN. Nothing shows.

Type: iread hpib,22 (and press RETURN. You should see the DVM ID string.)
